Your First Paintball Adventure: The Complete Beginner’s Guide
DBS specializes in introducing first time paintball players to paintball. Many of those first timers love their experience so much they will join our community & continue playing for years to come!
What Is Paintball?
Generally summed up as a game of tag, paintball is a game where players are equip with paintball markers and a paintball mask, and then split into teams to play different games.
The most basic game is called team elimination, where players are split into two different teams, then sent out on the field with the objective of eliminating their opponent by marking them with a single paintball.
There are a variety of different games that can be played, and at DBS we have many different themed maps you can play those games on.

EACH PLAYER WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A RENTAL PAINTBALL GUN SETUP. THE SETUP WILL INCLUDE A RENTAL AIR TANK THAT POWERS THE MARKER, A HOPPER THAT YOU PUT THE PAINTBALLS INTO, AND A BARREL BAG THAT GOES OVER THE BARREL BETWEEN GAMES TO KEEP FOLKS SAFE BETWEEN GAMES.
MUST HAVE A BARREL COVER ON AT ALL TIMES OUTSIDE THE LIVE FIRE ZONES. CONSIDER YOUR BARREL SOCK YOUR TICKET OFF THE FIELD.
THE BARREL COVER GOES OVER YOUR BARREL AND STRAPS TO YOUR PAINTBALL MARKER WITH AN ELASTIC STRAP SO IF YOU ACCIDENTLY FIRE YOUR MARKER THE PAINTBALL STAYS IN THE CAP.

Tell Me More About The Paintballs
This will talk about how it is a gelatin capsule, much like the vitamins you take, but filled with a food grade "paint" that is designed to be shot out of a paintball marker and break on target, leaving a paint mark!
There are two different sizes of paintballs at DBS, the Low Impact Paintball (.50 caliber) and the Traditional Paintball (.68 caliber).
The paintball on the left is a Traditional Paintball (.68 caliber) while the paintball on the right is a Low Impact Paintball (.50 caliber), shown so you can compare the size difference!
Steps To Play
Step 1: Pick A Service - Open Play or Private Group.
Private Groups allow you to book a time for you and your group to play your games privately.
Open Sessions allow you to come in during set times to play pickup games with others that are ran by our team.
Private Groups require a reservation, while Open Sessions do not require a reservation but we still recommend making one as things can sell out.
Step 2: Fill out a waiver & get checked in.
Waivers are required for all players. They can be done in advance at dbswaiver.com. Players must be at least 6-years old to play Low Impact Paintball and at least 10-years old to play Traditional Paintball.
Step 3: Get Your Rental Gear
We will do a safety briefing and game orientation prior to issuing your gear.
Step 4: Start Playing!
At DBS we generally follow a three step process to get games:
- Get Ready - you will load up your paintballs into your paintball marker, ensure the air tank on your marker is full (air powers the marker), and wipe off any old hits you may have on you.
- Get Set - head to the entry point where the referee will pick a map to play ,the game mode, and then split up teams.
- PLAY - you will then play the game! Once you are eliminated or the game ends you will start over at GET READY and repeat this process to get more games.

What Does Getting Hit By A Paintball Feel Like?
Let’s be honest – getting hit by a paintball stings a bit, like a firm flick or rubber band snap. Most first-timers are surprised it’s much less painful than expected! The adrenaline rush quickly takes over, and you’ll forget about any minor discomfort.
With that said, we have countless kids as young as 6-years old at the park playing low impact paintball each week! If they can handle it and want to get back out over and over again, we are sure you will not only handle it, but have an awesome time!
What to Wear: First-Timer Clothing Guide
Essential Clothing Tips:

✅ Clothes You Don't Mind Getting Dirty
✅ Avoid White Clothing as it can get grass stains. The "paint" washes out though!

Paintball Strategies for Beginners
Basic Tactics That Work:
1️⃣ Stay Low: Crouch or crawl to make yourself a smaller target
2️⃣ Use Cover Wisely: Move from bunker to bunker, don’t stay in one spot
3️⃣ Work as a Team: Communicate with teammates, coordinate moves
4️⃣ Conserve Paint: Aim carefully rather than spraying wildly
5️⃣ Have Fun: The best strategy is enjoying yourself!
Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid:
❎ Taking their mask off during a game: always keep your mask on
❎ Standing too tall behind cover: Stay low & reduce your chances of being hit
❎ Forgetting to check air levels: remember, your paintball gun requires air to work, so if you don't refill it your paintball gun will stop working
❎ Not communicating with teammates: You should talk to your team on and off the field. Doing so allows you to make a plan before the game starts, while talking during the game helps let everyone know where the opponent is hiding.
❎ Being afraid to move positions: You'll play more than one game so take some risks and move around.
❎ Taking the game too seriously: we're all here to have fun!
